THEN TAKE THE PLUNGE!

Swim with the SPCC Maryland Masters Swim Team.  Whether you are a novice swimmer wanting to get in shape or an experienced swimmer wanting to sharpen your strokes with an eye towards competition, there is a place here for fitness, improved swimming and camaraderie.  We know there is a big difference between trying to do it alone and  working towards goals under the guidance of qualified coaches with the support and encouragement of teammates.

WHAT IS MASTERS SWIMMING?

United States Master Swimming (USMS) is an organized program for adults.  Anyone 18 or  older can join.  USMS has over 30,000 members nationwide.  Membership provides you with the group’s accident and liability insurance during all sanctioned events and organized workouts.  You will also receive SWIM magazine.

Our Program

U.S. Masters Swimming is a life time sport enjoyed by many adults throughout the metropolitan Baltimore area.  Swimmers range in age from 18 to 100.  SPCC Masters Swim Team provides organized workouts in which swimmers are grouped in lanes according to their skill and fitness levels.  The coach emphasizes conditioning and stroke technique.  Supplemental weight training, stretch cords and swim benches also available.

THE COACHING STAFF

Head coach, NANCY BROWN  has been involved in all levels of swimming since 1952.  She founded the Maryland Masters Team in 1974, coached the Severna Park YMCA Team since 1986 and is a nationally-ranked swimmer herself.

Assistant coaches Jill Springer, Chris Stevens, Eileen Fisher, Diane Blubaugh and Mike Brown will provide quality leadership with their  knowledge of technique and enthusiasm.  They have all instructed for many years and also compete on national level.

For more information, please call Nancy Brown at 410-255-0699 or pick up a brochure at the pool..

Competition

Although not everyone competes, many members do enjoy it.  It’s exciting and a great way to measure your progress.  Swimmers compete with those in their own age group.  There are five year age groups starting with 18-24 years olds and progressing to 90-95 and beyond.  Our team participates in informal dual meets with several Masters teams in the  Baltimore-Annapolis area.  There are larger regional meets attracting swimmers from nearby states. Many of our swimmers compete in annual national and international Masters meets.  Our team won the National YMCA Masters Championship 1992-1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006.

FUN

Although our team is primarily oriented toward swimming, we don’t spend all of time in the pool.  Parties, picnics and other outings are held throughout the year.
