Results from the Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship Triathlon

We’ve all heard of the “perfect storm” but this year’s triathlon achieved a new term; “perfect balance”.  The total number of participants was exactly split between returning triathletes and new Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship triathletes.  Interestingly, the percentage of male participants to female participants within the new and returning groups was also an identical split with the ladies only slightly edging out the gentlemen.  It is also worth noting the youngest participant was 9 years old and the eldest was slightly north of 60.  No matter how the numbers are sliced it appears the triathlon is able to bridge the differences, bringing together a group that finishes the event with a Reason to Smile.

As a group of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, over $3,000 was raised for the scholarship fund.  In addition, separate donations increased the monies raised this year to over $4,000.  Thank you to EVERYONE for your continued support and commitment to the scholarship fund.  The scholarship fund has touched the lives of nearly 50 college bound swimmers since 2004.  This couldn’t have happened without you!

Winners not present for the award presentation earlier today will be able to pick up their awards at the front desk of Severna Park Community Center.  Thank you to Mr. Stevens for taking many wonderful shots of today’s event.  The pictures can be viewed at https://plus.google.com/photos/111915867113351713451/albums/5869024222621081425

I would like to thank the 30+ volunteers that it takes to put today’s event together.  Your contribution is greatly appreciated.  I would also like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Schindler for your tireless enthusiasm and preservation of Emily’s passion for not only helping others but more importantly celebrating their accomplishments.  I am personally indebted to you both.

We strive to continually improve the event.  If you have any comments or suggestions for ways we can improve the triathlon please reply to this email.

    Thank you,

    Hope Adams and David Ensor
